When you group patterns, they become one path. An open path consists of several grouped patterns that do not create a closed shape. When you select an open path, the entire path highlights. If you try to snap to an open path, the pointer snaps only to the two end points. When you sequence an open path, the cutting can only start at one of the end points. When you select an end point for sequencing, the system cuts all patterns in the path until it arrives at the end of the path.
A closed path consists of grouped patterns that create a closed shape. The end points of the patterns intersect to form a continuous path. When you select a closed path, the pointer snaps to any points along the path. The entire path also highlights when you select it.
