Base Line & Dynamic Origins

Base Line Origin

Part and Baseline Origin

When you begin a pattern, the starting point temporarily becomes the new origin. The coordinates reference from the pattern’s starting point.

Press <B> for Baseline Origin if you want to use measurements from the original reference point. A star that represents the origin returns to the reference point of the part. This is either the lower left corner of the part or a reference point you defined using the Reference Point option on the Edit menu.

Dynamic Origin

Dynamic or “temporary” origin.

If after drawing a pattern you want to modify the origin, press <O> for Origin. The hot key defines a temporary origin without canceling the pattern you are currently drawing. Use the mouse or type the coordinates to select your temporary origin.

Note: Refer to Base Line Origin for instructions if you want to type coordinates that are measured from the origin of the part.
